The Flying B adds lightness—oh, and horsepower—to its Continental GT convertible.
Everybody knows that sports are contests of skill in which a winner emerges, but what are supersports? Judging from the Bentley Supersports, which pairs the automaker’s expected refinement and elegance with supercollider acceleration and centrifugal corner stickiness, Supersports are something altogether more strange, like a mixture of various sports. Think WhirlyBall, which mixes bumper cars with elements of jai alai and basketball; or paintball, which mixes participants shooting each other with not dying.

Stuffing a giant engine into a tiny car is one of cardom’s oldest ways of going faster. Diesel-engine manufacturer Cummins took things to the extreme by grafting a QSK78 engine onto an original Austin Mini. There wasn’t really much stuffing involved, since the big, red mill just hangs out in the new engine “bay” in back. But we admire the effort and the mid-enginedness.
The QSK78 is typically destined for use in mining equipment. It weighs nearly 25,000 pounds and is the largest diesel engine built in the U.K. The V-18 displaces 77.6 liters and has 12 turbochargers, producing 3500 hp at 1900 rpm and 10,157 lb-ft of torque at 1500 rpm. We have serious doubts the Mini actually moves under diesel locomotion—notice the supports underneath the car—but we don’t really care. It certainly has our long-term Ram beat.
The car and engine will be on display at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K.

While it doesn’t exist—yet—this rendering shows us just how super-duper hot an RS4 Avant would look. Such a vehicle would conceivably be powered by the RS5’s 450-hp V-8. Drool.
We don’t even get the S4 wagon here, so it’s highly unlikely that, should an RS4 Avant ever become reality, we’d be left out of that fun too. Still, wagon lovers can dream, can’t they?

The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off tomorrow in England, and Mazda’s stand will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MX-5 Miata with a life-size Scalextric slot-car track featuring the iconic roadster. As seen above, the figure-eight track is not unlike the layout we used to build on our bedroom floor. Except, of course, this one’s the size of a parking lot.
The cars on the track will showcase MX-5s through the generations, so look for an original from model-year 1990, a first-gen in the 787B’s orange-and-green Le Mans livery, a 1992 California Special, a 10th-anniversary model, and current-generation cars. Unfortunately, our childish dreams of piloting the cars with a handheld controller are not to be: Mazda tells us the cars will be standard MX-5s on a purpose-built track meant to look like a slot-car circuit. Visitors can sit in the cars, but they won’t get to drive them. Pity.
As for moving Miatas, Mazda is bringing along its MX-5 Superlight concept as well as an MX-5 endurance racer, both of which will participate in the hill climb.

Wuling’s automotive production is currently limited to just the Chevrolet Spark and the unstoppable breadvan which has been a major part of the Chinese automotive stimulus project of ‘cars to the countryside’, the Chevrolet Spark is expected to fall under the Wuling name later this year and the Wuling sedan is set to launch later this year.
The Wuling sedan has been sighted on several times and has been known as the Demo Car until now, and is expected to be powered by a 1.2L engine and will cost as little as 50,000rmb.
The Wuling brand has become a major part of SAIC-GM’s tie up over the past few years and especially over the past few months it has shown its worth in the sales charts. GM recently signed a deal with SAIC and Wuling that will take them into India over the course of 2010, making it one of the first Chinese auto manufacturers to enter the lucrative Indian market place.

Chinese media reports are indicating that the MG3 will launch in September of 2010 and will be priced from a highly reasonable 60,000rmb.
The MG3 is based on the MG Zero concept that was launched at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, and wowed the world with the worlds first small MG in quite a few years. The MG3 is likely to make a strike into the small car segment and is likely to give joint venture manufacturers that produce small cars a fright when it launches, the MG3 will be aiming at the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit in the quality departments but will largely be aimed at the Suzuki Swift in pricing.
The MG3 will be produced in the UK as well, and will be likely sold Europe-wide in the future, making it an exciting time for MG once again.

JMC’s soon to be launched Qu Sheng SUV has been spotted out undergoing hot weather testing in Turpan, one of China’s hottest places.
According to sources the Qu Sheng is undergoing tempratures of around 47 degrees centigrade on a daily basis to get a better idea of how the car performs in dry dusty conditions and how its air conditioning can handle the load under heavy strain.
Ford have also recently announced that they are planning to put the Ford Maverick into production in partnership with JMC, which could push JMC forward to become a major producer of SUV’s and MPV’s in the Chinese market.
As well as the Qu Sheng SUV, JMC are also planning a new range of vehicles based off the Qu Sheng platform, including a mid sized pick up truck.

The Greatwall Florid Crossover has been on the market for less than 12 months and is already ready for a facelift according to these leaked pictures from Greatwall, the first Florid Crossover was interesting but the facelift version seems to be much improved in the front end department and seems to appear follow the design style of the other crossovers in the GWM line up.
Engine power will likely come from the same 1.5l and also a 1.3l engine power that is already in the original non crossover Florid. Whilst the Crossover version is slightly more expensive than the regular version, it is already proving to be a popular model for Greatwall Motor, the addition of another face lift will only improve sales over the next few months which are likely to be strong sales months yet again for Great Wall.
