As a sub company of First Automobile Works Haima seems to have a high degree of design autonomy that separates it by a considerable distance from FAW’s other sub brands such as Besturn and Tianjin, which seem to suffer from awkward design after awkward design, although Haima is making do with older Mazda technology from FAW-Mazda, they are certainly making the best of it.
A new mid size Haima sedan has been spotted out testing in Hainan Island, further information on the car other than it has been spotted out testing seems to be unavailable.

Chinese media are reporting that the 12th five-year development planning for Beijing’s auto industry, put forward by Beijing Automotive Industry Association, was approved by the Beijing Economic and Information Technology Commission in April this year.
According to the plan, the number of all-electric vehicles in Beijing is expected to reach 100,000 units by 2015, and most of them will be passenger vehicles. The all-electric vehicles are the focus of the planning, but the other new energy vehicles like plug-in hybrids will also be supported. Notably, consumers of all-electric vehicles will be given a subsidy of 120,000 yuan, and favorable policies including no lottery drawing, no traffic limits, and no taxation.
The industry is thrilled at the news. The local pioneers in the new energy vehicle industry, like BYD, Zotye, and Chery, said they will see Beijing as the key market to make breakthroughs.
Some people are calm about the news. Chen Quanshi, deputy director of automobile research institute of Tsinghua University, said that it takes much time for the implementation of these policies as they have not been announced yet, and it’s all empty talks before the policy is issued officially.

Chery Automobile Co. will break new ground in Latin America and its factory of US$200 million in Venezuela will start producing vehicles for the region later this year, Xinhua news agency reported.
Chery had signed a cooperative agreement with China Development Bank and the Venezuelan government to set up the new factory, which will be the second-largest that Chery has in Latin America, following its existing auto manufacturing facility in Brazil, a top company executive told Tuesday’s China Daily.
Du Weiqiang, vice-president of Chery International, said the new auto-making plant will be producing 20,000 cars annually.
The new factory will be the first Chinese automotive plant in Venezuela and will help Chery – China’s largest auto exporter and largest Chinese independent automaker – to ramp up its exports.
Under the agreement, China Development Bank will “grant loans to the Venezuelan government and Chery will transfer technology.”

The Japan Automotive Parts Industrial Center (JAPIC) recently started construction in Danyang city of eastern China’s Jiangsu province. The project is jointly launched by the Danyang municipal government and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The center will be put into use this November.
The March 11 earthquake caused severe damage to Japan’s local manufacturing industry. Its auto export volume in April fell 67% to 255.3 billion yen, the lowest level since January 1979. Now, the Japanese companies, including small and medium automotive parts firms, quicken their industry chain transfer to overseas markets.
30 to 50 Japanese parts companies are expected to settle down at JAPIC at the year end, and the number will reach 300 in three years, said a local official at Danyang city.
Their moving to China is supported by JETRO and China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
Since the 2008 C63 AMG went on sale, Mercedes has sold nearly 20,000 examples worldwide of the sedan and its not-for-the-U.S. wagon counterpart. Not bad for a hard-core enthusiast machine, but Mercedes still thinks it’s leaving something on the table. Enter the latest addition to the C-class AMG lineup, this C63 coupe. It just so happens that the C63’s biggest competition, the BMW M3, comes in coupe and sedan shells, too.

We’ve previously spied the upcoming 2013 Ford Escape, but these latest photos both show more of the crossover’s shape and confirm our previous suspicions about what might power it. When last we saw a 2013 Escape test mule, it was wearing current-generation Ford Kuga bodywork, so these new images are the first to show off the new shape. The overall look follows that of Ford’s Vertrek concept, including the swoopy greenhouse, bulging hood, swept-back headlights (whose Focus-style inset turn indicators are taped over here), and strong character line running from the front wheelarch to the tip of the taillights. Those taillights and a new fender vent seem the lone elements that seriously deviate from the Vertrek. That concept sported simple, single-form taillights, while this prototype’s taillights feature a thin extension that wraps onto the rear quarter panels just like those on Ford’s 2012 Focus hatch (see the close-up shot of the taillight in the gallery below).

More compelling, though, are the shots of the vehicle sans front and rear fascias. The exposed front-mounted intercooler confirms our previous hunches about Ford’s adoption of EcoBoost power for its baby sport utility. The base engine for the 2013 Escape is likely to be Ford’s naturally aspirated 168-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder, joined in the powertrain lineup by either a 1.6-liter, turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter EcoBoost, or both. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost is the same engine found in the Vertrek concept, and we’d expect it to produce somewhere near 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost should be good for 237-ish hp and 250 lb-ft of torque, and would make for an interesting Kia Sportage SX competitor. A hybrid powertrain is almost guaranteed, whether an evolution of the system in the current Escape hybrid or possibly a plug-in affair. We’ll bring you more details as they become available; in the meantime, check out the gallery below for more spy photos of the 2013 Escape.

This week, Yuma, Arizona, became the first of 12 U.S. cities to receive a fleet of Ram pickups that have been equipped with plug-in hybrid electric powertrains. The trucks are part of a three-year, $100m demonstration program sponsored by Chrysler and the U.S. Department of Energy. Each one of the 10 trucks arriving in Yuma—like the 130 more to be distributed elsewhere— is equipped with Chrysler’s tried-and-true 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood and a liquid-cooled, 12.9-kWh battery pack tucked beneath the second row bench. In case of a local power outage, the powertrain is capable of a “reverse power flow” to keep the lights on—at least in City Hall.
The trucks also feature a two-mode transmission “based upon two-speed transmission technology that was readily available from a previous vehicle electrification project,” Chrysler’s press release said. (Reading between the lines, Chrysler has finally found something to do with a hunk of leftover transmissions from the ill-timed previous-gen Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen hybrids.) Also along for the ride are regenerative brakes, cylinder deactivation, and a 240-volt/30-amp four-prong power outlet and 120-volt/20-amp outlet power strip in the cargo bed to power tools, cell phones, and margarita blenders.
The municipalities earmarked for the plug-in pickups are scattered from coast to coast and from Arizona to North Dakota, for use in both cities and rural areas, in order to gather a wide range of usage data and to see where and in which circumstances big-battery technology does best. Needless to say, the usage data collected will be markedly different than that which Toyota is gleaning from its Prius plug-in hybrid program. But unlike the Prius plug-in, which goes into production in 2012, the Ram plug-in hybrid program is strictly experimental, as is an upcoming endeavor to build 25 Chrysler Town & Country plug-in hybrids, and there are no plans for a production version.
